Expiration Reminders
Expiration reminders help you keep track of the shelf life and validity dates of your items, so that nothing goes to waste. Together with low-stock alerts they live in the "Reminders" segment of the Follow-up page.
Say you buy milk, medication or anything else with a shelf life. Once the expiry date is set, the system keeps track of which items are close to expiring and which already have, so you can deal with them in time instead of throwing them away.
Which Dates Get Reminders
Not every date gets a reminder — two conditions have to be met:
- The attribute is a date attribute (such as "Expiry Date" or "Validity Period")
- In Attribute Management, that attribute has its "Reminder" toggle turned on
Once it is on, you can also give the attribute advance reminder days, which decide how many days ahead the reminder starts. The item itself needs no extra configuration — just fill in the date.
One item can have several reminder-enabled date attributes at the same time — for example "Shelf life after opening" and "Production date" each count as their own reminder.
Setting an Expiry Date
- Edit the item and fill in a date attribute that has reminders enabled
- Pick the exact expiry date
- Save the item — the system picks it up automatically
The Reminder List
For how to get in, see Follow-up: the "More" menu in the top right of the home page, or the "N expiring soon" status line above the item list. Once inside, stay on the "Reminders" segment.
Calendar View
A calendar at the top gives a visual overview of how the expiry dates are spread out:
- Dates that have expiring items show the item image; when several items share one day, a count is shown instead
- Tap a day to view the items expiring on that day
- Swipe to change months, or use the month dropdown at the top to jump straight to one
Expiring Items List
Below the calendar the items are listed, one per row:
- Item name
- Attribute name · days left / days expired: for example "Expiry Date · 3 days left", "Validity Period · expired 12 days ago"
- Date: the exact expiry date, on the right
- Edit: a button at the end of the row, for changing the date right there
Quick Date Update
You can update a date straight from the reminder list, without opening the detail page:
- Tap "Edit" on the right side of that reminder
- Choose a postponement of 30 / 60 / 90 / 180 / 365 days, or pick a new date yourself
- After confirming, the list refreshes on its own
For example, when an item expired and you already bought a replacement, tap "Edit" in the reminder list, choose 365 days later, and the new expiry date is written back for you.
Filtering
The top right of the reminder list has a filter entry for narrowing the range:
- Tap the filter icon in the top right corner
- Choose filter criteria (for example by location, by status)
- Both the list and the calendar then show only the matching items
Viewing Item Details
- Tap one of the reminders in the list
- The item detail page opens
- There you can view the full information or edit the item
Push Notifications
As an item approaches its expiry date, NeatHub reminds you through your phone's notification bar:
- When you are notified depends on the advance reminder days of that attribute; if none are set, the reminder comes on the expiry day itself
- Pushes are sent once a day at a fixed time, titled "Today's Reminders" or "Reminders within N days"
- Tapping the notification takes you straight to the item
- You need to allow the app to send notifications — see Push Notifications
You receive them even when the app is not open. Low stock, however, is not part of what gets pushed — it is only visible in the low-stock segment of the Follow-up page.
Use Cases
Food Shelf Life
- Record expiry dates for food
- Get reminders for food that is about to expire
- Use up the items closest to expiring first
Medication Expiry
- Record the validity dates of medicines
- Dispose of expired medication promptly
- Restock and update the dates
Document Validity Tracking
- Record validity dates for documents (ID cards, passports, and so on)
- Get a reminder when a renewal is due
- Avoid issues caused by expired documents
Skincare Product Shelf Life
- Record how long skincare products last after opening
- Get reminders to replace expired skincare
- Avoid using expired products
Expiry Date vs. Purchase Date

Expiry dates suit items with a shelf life (food, medication, and so on); purchase dates suit keeping a record of what you bought and when (electronics, clothing, and so on). You can use both together.
